RS #39

Time for another RetroSketches card.  The sketch was based on THIS amazing card by Laurie Wilson.  I just love using kraft, white and red together for Christmas project so today's card features these colours.  Playing with saddle stitch ribbon is so much fun, I find it so easy to create a bow and it doesn't matter if the ribbon keeps flipping over.

DD #30

There is no question that by doing blog challenges it pushes you to dig deep and find something that you didn't even know you had.  I love doing the Dynamic Duos challenges because they push me to stick within the confines of only using two colours but in a creative way.  That could be adding patterned paper, or die cuts, ink or even adding in a sketch from another challenge.

When I looked at the colours for this week's challenge I didn't think I could do it.  These are two colours that are not really in my comfort zone.  As I saw the deadline drawing near I took a look at what has been on my desk this week.  Where I was stuck was thinking I had to use glitter or sparkle of some kind,  but inside my 6 x 6" pad of Echo Park's Very Merry was silver patterned paper.  From there I had Love Lives Here Holiday already out and a Tag Sale #4 die in white that had been tossed aside.  The idea was born and the card came together in a half hour.

All Supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted:

Cardstock:  White, Enchanted Evening
Patterned paper: silver star (Very Merry Echo Park)
Stamps: ove Lives Here Holiday
Ink:  Enchanted Evening, True Black
Dies: Love Lives Here Holiday, Tag Sale /4

MIM #93

This week's MIM video was by Ashley Cannon Newell and it was about splitting your die cuts to give then a totally new and different look.  For my card I decided that the die cut I wanted to split was the Parisian Lace Doily die.  This die is fairly large so I actually removed about a 1/2" from the centre of the die so that my sentiment would fit comfortably in between.

All Supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted:

Cardstock:  Simply Chartreuse, Pure Poppy, White
Patterned paper: Sugar Plum
Stamps: Stylish Sentiments Holidays, Winter Penguin
Ink:  True Black, Simply Chartreuse
Dies: Parisian Lace Doily, Winter Penguin
other: foam tape, Copic marker Y35

Playing along with this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge.
This week's sketch is based on Jean Martin's fabulous card HERE.

I used patterned papers from Echo Park's Very Merry 6 x 6 paper pad which is part of my new mandate to stop hoarding paper.  I need lots and lots of luck with that.  Now if I can just part with the card I would be well on my way to recovery.

Cardstock:  Kraft (Papertrey Ink)
Patterned Paper:  Very Merry 6 x 6 pad (Echo Park)
Stamps: 2011 Ornaments (Waltzingmouse)
Ink:  Real Red (Stampin' Up)
Dies: Labels 18 (Spellbinders) Half & Half (Papertrey Ink)
other: baker's twine (The Twinery), jingle bell

25 Days of Christmas Tags - Tag 10

One of the things I love about making tags is that you can make them as simple as you want or as detailed and complex as you want.  Typically you are working with a smaller canvas, one that can accommodate small images.  Today`s tag is made from an older woodblock PSX image.  I die cut my frame from a Spellbinder`s die and popped the image into the centre.

Cardstock:  White, New Leaf (Papertrey Ink)
Stamps: wreath (PSX)
Ink:  New Leaf, True Black
Dies: Labels 18 (Spellbinders)
other: foam dots, button twine, jingle bells

Little Tangles #1

By now I am sure you are aware of the fantastic stamps at Neat & Tangled.  I kid you not they stamp beautifully every time.  Now there is a new challenge blog at Neat & Tangled called Little Tangles and today I am here to share my card for their first ever challenge Say Hello!

I have quite a few Neat & Tangled stamp sets, but I seemed to be lacking a 'hello', for just that reason Neat & Tangled has supplied a a couple free digital images to get us started.  I chose the hello image and then just used the word hello, then I went through all my sets and found as many combinations as I could to create a card to tell someone hello and how great I think they are.  In my case I am saying hello to Neat & Tangled and I think their stamps are pretty great.

Cardstock:  White, Limeade (Papertrey Ink)
Stamps: Kindness Matters, Sweet Home, Little Bear, Elvs at Work (Neat & Tangled)
Ink:  Summer Sunrise, Pure Poppy, Blueberry Sky, Hibiscus Burst, Winter Wisteria, Raspberry Fizz, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse, Orange Zest, New Leaf, Sweet Blush (Papertrey Ink)
Digital Image: hello (Neat & Tangled)

Papertrey Ink Blog Hop - November & 25 Days of Christmas Tags - Tag #9

This month's we were challenged with Cover Art Inspiration which was descibed like this:

Have you every been inspired to get paper crafting after browsing the shelves at the book store?  Or excited by the cover of a particular catalog when it arrives in the mail?  Cover art is a wonderful source of inspiration and it can be found all around you.  Your challenge is to select one of my favorite covers above (or a cover of your own) and use it as inspiration to create a really unique project.
Although I am inspired by cover art of all kinds, I never really put that inspiration to task.  When it got down to the wire I started asking myself what really inspires me.  Look no further than my coffee table that usually has a Pottery Barn catalog on it.  Once the new catalog arrives, the old catalog goes into the magazine basket beside the couch.  So for my projects today I used the December 2011 catalog for inspiration.

...here is my card and tag.

I decided to miniaturize my card to makes today's Christmas tag.
